Actor Santosh Shukla, a proud Lucknow native, recently wrapped up filming for a six-episode web series in his home state of Uttar Pradesh. Known for his appearances in Bigg Boss 6 (2013), Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (2014), and Akshay Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey (2022), Shukla is thrilled to be working on projects that bring him closer to his roots.
The new web series, Bhakshan 1.0, was extensively shot in the picturesque locales of Rampur. Initially planned to be filmed on the outskirts of Lucknow, the production shifted to Rampur after discovering its breathtaking locations and budget-friendly options. “UP is truly blessed with stunning, untapped locations,” Shukla shared during his visit to Lucknow. “It’s amazing to see filmmakers moving towards real locations instead of relying solely on sets.”
The series features an impressive ensemble cast, including Piyush Mishra, Anil Rastogi, Mushtaq Khan, Subhanshu Singh Rajput, Raj Premi, Middat Khan, and Jhanvi Adhikari. Directed by debutant Anuj Kumar Roy, who previously assisted filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma, and written by Lucknow’s own Shikhar Srivastava, the series explores themes of politics and power. Shukla plays the role of a powerful politician, a character he is excited to bring to life.
Shukla expressed gratitude for the opportunities to work in his home state, saying, “Moving to Mumbai early in my career allowed me to work on TV and films, but it’s a blessing to now have projects that allow me to shoot in Uttar Pradesh. Being able to work in my hometown and showcase its beauty to the world is truly special.” The series’ second season is already planned to be filmed in Lucknow to meet the story’s evolving demands.
In addition to the web series, Shukla has recently completed filming for Gulaabi Rewri, a movie shot entirely in Lucknow. The project features a talented cast, including Lekha Prajapati, Nazia Hussain, and Pankhuri Gidwani. “We’ve wrapped up multiple schedules and completed post-production for the film. It’s set to stream on an OTT platform early next year,” he revealed.
Shukla also teased an upcoming music video, set to be filmed in Lucknow, as part of his growing body of work in the region. “The track has already been recorded, and we are in the process of finalizing the female lead,” he added.
As Uttar Pradesh continues to emerge as a hub for film and web productions, Santosh Shukla’s work highlights the potential of the state’s diverse locations and talent. “Shooting here feels like coming full circle,” Shukla concluded. “It’s a joy to contribute to the growing film culture in my home state while staying connected to my roots.”
